The Book of the Week - How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World
by Marjorie Priceman
This is another favorite in my own household. It is a delightful, creative and humorous adventure that your children will enjoy for years to come. We'll use the recipe at the back of the book to make an apple pie on Thursday. Ask your child to trace the locations of the book on a world map this week.

Thursday, 22nd - Individual Picture Day
Thank you Brubakers for your awesome contributions as Parents of the Month. Jason came in last Monday morning and introduced Very Hungry Caterpillar book. See picture to the right. The students loved having a parent read. Thanks also to Laurie Bradley for bringing awesome cutouts and puppet and telling the story of the Hungry Caterpillar on Friday. (I made the mistake of telling Hudson that you were coming and he grinned all day). A big thanks to Brandy Parsonnet for being Chapel Mom on Wednesday. The students say that they LOVED Chapel, especially Sarah Kate, whose big brother, Jake was one of the students that shared that morning
Artist of the Year...
This week we will introducing our Artist for the Year (in Kindergarten), John James Audobon. We learn that he is a student and lover of nature and came to be known as the "man who drew birds". We will take a good long look at his mallard duck picture. We will also do our very first picture study of McCloskey's drawing of ducks on Thursday and then a reproduction drawing.

A huge thank you to Rachel Brubaker for joining us on Thursday for our awesome trip to Italy and other wonderful "P" activities. Please see more "P" week pictures to the right.
Looking Forward to "C" Week and our very first Chapel Service on Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30. Thank you Brandy Parsonnet for being Chapel Mom. Please notice that this year (for the first time) that Kindergartners are required to wear Dressy Enrichment. Please contact me with any questions. Also, please know that ALL PCS PARENTS are welcome to attend Chapel. Brandy will be helping more with "crowd control" and bathroom breaks for our class.
Sound of the Week - Letter C
Book of the Week - The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Habit of the Month - Obedience
Mom of the Month - Rachel Brubaker
Jason Brubaker will start our week by reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Monday afternoon. We will continue throughout the week enjoying other Eric Carle books as well as books on Caterpillars and Butterflies and many wonderful "C" activities.
Moving to LInes!
I have been impressed with the grips and letter formation of my class this year. Last week, we attempted to move our letters to "lines" and all students did very well. Contrary to what I mentioned at the first class meeting, I believe it is appropriate that we go ahead and move to "lines" in our Handwriting Without Tears. I know it doesn't sounds like a big deal, but to a kindergarten teacher, It really is a big step.
Have a blessed Week!

"P" stands for Principal's Meeting (Tuesday Night) and Papa Piccolo
Week of September 6-8
Sound of the Week - P
Book of the Week - Papa Piccolo
Habit of the Month - Obedience
Mom of the Month - Rachel Brubaker
As we begin "P" week, I will start by reminding you of our "P"rincipal's Meeting on Tuesday night with Susan Crist in the Church Fellowship Hall from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and then our Campus Meeting at 7:30 in Main Sanctuary. Both are mandatory meetings.
The students jumped right into a regular routine last week with "F" week. I was thrilled to see how well they adapted to Handwriting without Tears program and enjoyed our Book of the Week. Please see a photo of your child in the right margin as we celebrated The Glorious Flight last Thursday with making airplane cupcakes, paper airplanes and flying from the Main Entrance Balcony.
Our study of "P" this week and BOTW Papa Piccolo will include many of the same daily activities with Handwriting without Tears and Saxon Math hands on activities. Thank you Rachel Brubaker, our September MOM, for visiting this Thursday to experience Italy and the letter P. During our Special Event Thursday, students will make their own mini-pizza, take a "Gondala" trip through the Canal of Venice (like Papa Piccolo), paint the flag of Italy as well as take part in other letter "P" activities. Please be sure to read our Book of the Week (Papa Piccolo) and return the next school day.
Rachel Brubaker will be contacting you soon to about the Apple Picking Trip on September 30th.
Have a blessed week. See you Tuesday night!
