Book of the Week - The Great Kapok Tree
Mom of the Month - Meredith Burns
Looking forward to another action packed week in kindergarten. Our book this week, The Great Kapok Tree, is full of colorful, rich pictures that depict the beauty of God's creation in the Rain forest. I do feel that I need make our parents aware that this book is written from a secular/save the earth perspective. I think the book itself is fine, but there is a letter at the back of the book that reads "save mother earth". I plan to black the mother earth in this letter. I know the author writes from the secular perspective of saving what we have, and Genesis 1 shows us that God asks us to "care for what He has given." Both of our verses this week are from Genesis...God made the plants and the animals....all of them AND God set man over His creation to care for it. I believe the book is valuable but didn't want this book to come home without explaining our concerns.
We had three exciting visitors to our classroom last week. Joshua's grandfather, Jon Colcord, visited and read our book of the week Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. Vin's grandparents, Bill and Kathy O'Toole, who live in Arizona, and returned on Wednesday from a trip to Israel, visited on Thursday. Kathy read Maybelle, another wonderful book by Virginia Lee Burton about the San Francisco cable cars. She and Vin also presented gifts to the class of olive wood crosses that she purchased in Bethlehem just for our children. She shared that she prays daily for our class (which was an incredible blessing to this teacher). To end our S packed week, our dad of the month, Chris Burns, visited and celebrated the students' awesome shape machines and then prepared Ice Cream Sundaes! See pictures of all three and visitors to the right!
As we only have 3 days in this school week, please return our book of the week, the next day. I plan to send the books home as follows.
Tuesday - Kyra, Vin and Iris
Wednesday - Jacob, Sarah Kate and Hudson
Thursday - Joshua, Gavin, Cooper and Hughes
Also, please sign up for conference times for Thursday, October 27th. Sent email last week with available times. Thank you!
