Week of August 29-September 1
Habit of the Month - Obedience
Sound of the Week - F
Book of the Week - The Glorious Flight
Mom of the Month - Brandy Parsonnet
Beginning 1st Verse of School Verse - Roman 12:1
Last Wednesday, as we walked down to our classroom after morning drop-off, Joshua grabbed my hand and looked up at me and said, "Mrs. Lee, I have friends!". What a precious reflection of the our first two weeks in kindergarten. The children are becoming friends as they learn about one another, how to accept one another, and that Jesus wants them to show qualities of a true friend. The first two weeks have been a precious time of learning and growing. Please look for their Wonderfully Made book to come home tomorrow (Monday) in backpacks and the Friends book on Wednesday. Both books have been made over the past two weeks.
Tomorrow we will begin our Sound of the Week Studies with the letter "F". This week we will be using feathers, finger painting fish, moving fast and slow, singing one of my Miss Gail Favorites, Funny Fingers, folding and flying paper airplanes (thanks Colcord family for the great instructions and supplies), studying the word "first" (and other ordinal poisitions), counting and graphing the number of people in our family. We are planning to Freeze fresh juice to make popsicles. Some fun "F" activities at home would include: Inviting a Friend over, Family Fun Night, visiting a pet store to see Fish.
Our Book of the Week, The Glorious Flight, by Martin and Alice Provensen is a Caldecott Book set in the early 1900s in France and tells the true story of Louis Bleriot and the first flight across the English Channel. As we read and discuss the book our topics will be family, methods of transportation, France, England, inventions, inventors, righting a wrong and perserverance. God is the ultimate creator, inventor, so take time this week to notice and praise Him! For our special event on Thursday, Brandy Parsonnet will help us prepare Airplane Cupcakes and we will fly paper airplanes from the Balcony in the Main Entrance. I picked up books from our public library that encourage the children to dig deeper into culture of France, Airplanes and inventions.
I am incredibly blessed to have this year with your children!
